Rangers unable to combat Kinucks!
Kincardine Kinucks 5 - Belmont Rangers 3
Thanks to a mathematical equation that only Stephen Hawking, the University of Cambridge Mathematics Professor, could figure out. The top scoring Kincardine Kinucks would play in a third placed group play off, on Sunday morning, as they were exactly 0.009 points below their closest group rival!??
Like the previous games it would be a fairly evenly contested match up, with
both sets of players skating hard.
The Rangers showed that they could pass the
puck well and the Kinucks would, again, find themselves trailing 2-0 early in
the first period. In truth, a lot of the players were still looking tired in
these early stages. The fourth game in 3 days was definitely taking its toll on
this set of young players. That said, these guys were far from being done and in
typical Kinucks fashion, the fight back would commence..
The Kinucks
needed some goals and they would soon be provided. Noah Swann would cut through
the Rangers defence like a knife through butter and Kincardine were in the
game.
As the game continued the Kinucks players started to get their legs
going and resume their hard skating style of play. None of their victories had
come easily and this one would prove no different.
The Rangers were
giving their all and looking to pressurize the Kincardine goal. Skating through
the neutral zone they looked to make a break-through, but Cam 'Chara' Fletcher
would attempt to head the threat off. As he made the challenge he would haul the
Rangers forward to the ice. Two minutes in the penalty box for Fletcher. A place
he seems to be getting more and more familiar with!
The 'Brock Star'
Brock Courtney would soon follow into the penalty box. Having prevented a one on
one break away, he was also called for tripping. It was another call that you
couldn't really argue about and the Kinucks had to battle on..
During this period of short-handed play, Noah Page would excel with his defensive contribution. Ryan
Tanner was also serving up a top notch display in the Kincardine goal. He would
continually make saves and not give the Rangers a chance of a rebound.
At
the other end of the ice Noah Swann continued to terrorize the Rangers defence.
His skill and speed were a constant menace. There was another forward who was
unfortunate not to get his name on the score sheet. Sam MacTavish weaved his way
through the Rangers defence, only to fire wide as he approached the oppositions
net.
The game would end 5-3 in favour of the Kinucks. All five goals were
scored by Noah Swann, making an incredible total of 19 for the weekend!
Wow!
The Kincardine hardest working player was awarded to a member of the
'Berlin Wall', Ryan Tanner, who was again outstanding between the pipes.
