West Grey Huskies 3 - Kincardine Kinucks 8
In anticipation of Noah ‘Crocodile Dundee’ Page’s extended vacation, coach, Greg Tanner, tried out some defensive changes for this game. These changes would see Cam ‘Chara’ Fletcher move up to the wing, while the top scoring Noah Swann carried out some defensive duties. The match-up would remain fairly close for extended periods, mainly thanks to the Huskies goalie Cam Voisin, who pulled off a string of fine saves.
The first period would see the Kinucks blast into an
early lead. ‘The Sniper’ Noah Swann would collect the first two goals, with
assists going to ‘The French Connection’ of Quinton and Jesse Pagé, as well as
Jared Houghton. Kincardine power forward Sam MacTavish notched the third, while
Swann turned provider and claimed the assist.
The game was finely balanced at the end of the 2nd
period as the Kinucks held a 4-3 lead. The fourth goal for Kincardine would go
to Jared Houghton, making him 1+1 for the night. The ever reliable Holden
Stevenson was the creator of this goal, with Ryan Tanner unfortunate not to get
some credit for his part in the build up.
It was in the third period that Kincardine finally
broke through and gained some breathing space. Goal number five was delivered
by the ever impressive Cody McClelland. It was a beautiful goal, reminiscent of
the great Bobby Orr as he rushed the length of the ice.
The team DJ Quinton Pagé put the Kinucks into a 6-3
lead with an unassisted effort. However, this goal by DJ Pagé did expose one further
thing. It was the second game that Pagé was without his Montreal Canadiens
changing room mat, and just like the first time, he got on the score sheet. The
curse of the Montreal
mat has been proven! The mat must go!
The Kinucks were running rampant by this point in the
game. Noah Swann made it 7-3, assisted by Noah Page. Having just collected that
assist it would be ‘Crocodile Dundee’ Page that would actually finish off the
scoring, with assists for Brock Courtney and Sam MacTavish.
Kwade Beisel would be the ‘Berlin Wall’ patrol for
this game. However, unlike previous games he didn’t have to provide heroics between
the pipes to keep his team in the game. He simply remained steady throughout.
The final score would be 8-3 for the Kinucks. The
requirement for hard work seems to have sunk in for these young players, and is
demonstrated by Carson
‘Teddy’ Fletcher et al. The team continues to improve and they remain unbeaten
in league competition, to date.
Kincardine’s hardest working player was awarded to Sam
MacTavish who weighed in with 1 goal and 2 assists, for the night. In my
opinion, this was definitely MacTavish’s best game of the season so far.
