The Kincardine Bruce Telecom Bantam LL2 Kinucks played their first away game in Tara on Tuesday 06Nov2012 against the AEMHA Ice Dogs. Kincardine knew that things would be different away from home. The pre-game pep talk by Coach Fohkens stressed the game plan that had got Kincardine off to its 3-0-0 start on the season.
The first period saw Kincardine shell shocked as the home team pressed hard - bottling Kincardine in their own end for a good part of the period. Alex Pande held the team in this one early, with save after save, making a total of 6 with many more directed at the net. Kincardine finally started to find their form later in the period, managing 2 shots on net.
The second period continued to build on the momentum established in the first. A penalty in the middle of the period led to a Kincardine power play that resulted in Riley Cherrett tucking one in with assists going to Jacob Gordon and Owen Fohkens. Less than 3 minutes later, Kincardine added another with Brady Masur finishing off in-tight. The helpers went to Cherret and Gordon. Kincardine then let down to end the second period on a low note allowing AEMHA back into the game with a late period goal. Coach Fohkens stressed keeping the energy level up during the break.
In the third, Kincardine came out on fire, getting three quality scoring chances early but did not capitalize. A power play for Kincardine midway through the third turned disastrous when an unfortunate bounce up the middle resulted in a breakaway goal for AEMHA, tying up the game. The momentum then swung AEMHA’s way with Kincardine abandoning their game plan in a bit of a panic. AEMHA capitalized, scoring with 8 seconds left in the game to take the win. The lesson learned in this game was to trust the game plan and put out solid effort every shift. The next away game will give Kincardine the chance to see if the lesson has been learned.
