ARCHIE MCMILLAN TOURNEY WINNERS
With a perfect 5-0-0 record the Miller Insurance Midget Rep team won the Archie McMillan Memorial trophy for Kincardine on the weekend of 24 to 26 October. They started the round robin stage with comfortable 6-0 and 5-2 wins against the Minto Mad Dogs and Mitchell Meteors. An exciting come-from-behind 3-1 victory over the Twin Centre Stars, with two goals in the last five minutes, put the Kinucks into the semi-final against last year’s winners the Petrolia Oilers.

Petrolia took the lead in this one too but Kincardine again showed their resilience by tying the game up in the second before winning a fast, hard fought game in overtime. The final against another unbeaten team, the Penetang Flames, proved to be another highly entertaining, physical game that had the crowd on the edge of their seats. The excellent teamwork, superb penalty killing and outstanding goaltending that the Kinucks had shown throughout the tournament were highlighted in an outstanding 2-1 win to lift the trophy. The tournament MVP award deservedly went jointly to goaltenders Ethan Primeau and Dalton Regier. Completing the champion team were defencemen Raven Sharp, Marshall Smith, Will Graham, Evan Brown, Sheldon McBride and Grant Stevens and forwards Bradley Pickett, Sam Culmer, Tyson Rutledge, Skylar Rutledge, Ethan Long, Shane Vollmer, Kyle Hunter, Scott McFarlan, Jakob Dunlop and Brett Burrows. Reflecting on the win Head Coach Cory Hamilton said "We came into the weekend wanting to represent the town in a winning-way, both on and off the ice. I am proud of the team for working hard and staying discipline. Any time you only give up 5 goals against in 5 games, you have to tip your hat to your goaltenders. Overall, it was a very positive experience for our team as we continue to try to get better."
