Pink on the Rink
This past weekend, the Kinucks Novice C Girls packed up for the Pink on the Rink tournament in Exeter.  After Christmas break, all of the girls were itching to get back on the ice and have some fun.

The weather cooperating for the Kinucks amidst a winter storm, the Girls were ready to tackle the kick-off game to the tournament series against the Huron Heat.  All of the players came out eager and confident at the Hensall Arena Friday morning.  It would be a tight game from the first face-off, and it would be one of the most exciting games fans have had the privilege of attending.  In the first period, Parker Talbot would score early with an assist from Makayla Fyke.  The Heat would respond soon after with a nice play up the middle.  Parker, eager to see the score in favour of the Kinucks would catch a nice breakaway and score for the Kinucks, but seconds later, the Heat would bring in their second goal to end the first in a 2-2 tie.  The Heat would score early in the second period, keeping fans on both sides of the ice in suspense as the Girls were all playing hard.  The rest of the second and the whole of the third period would be hard-fought by the Kinucks, but the Heat would win this game with a final score of 3-2.  This was such a fun game to watch, thanks Kinucks!!

The Girls had a great time celebrating a well-played game at a local diner in Exeter.  And after a hearty breakfast, they traveled to Stephen Township to play against the Ilderton Jets.  This was another great game played by both teams and it could have gone either way.  In the end, the Kinucks came out ahead with a final score of 2-0.  What an incredible game to watch!  All fans left the arena proud of the Girls’ efforts and enthusiasm both on and off of the ice.

Everyone retired at a decent time in preparation for the semi-finals on Saturday morning at the Hensall arena, with another game against the Huron Heat.  Fans were anxious to see the Kinucks play against the Heat again, and hoped for another exciting game.  The Girls did not disappoint!  The play was back and forth for the entire game.  The Heat were able to make their way to the Kinucks end to take several shots on goal, but Player of the Game, Chloe Kirkconnell would stand her ground.  Great job, Chloe!!!!  The Heat eventually managed to get one passed Chloe, and this was all they would need this day to defeat the Kinucks 1-0.

Saturday morning’s loss meant the Girls were not in contention for a medal at the Pink on the Rink tournament, but the weekend reaffirmed that all that the Girls are still in it for the love of the sport and the fun with their team.  What a great weekend at a really fun venue.  Well done, Kinucks!   See you next weekend when you’ll be back in regular season play against TDCMHA and Saugeen Shores.
