Kincardine Atom LL2 travelled to Ripley on 03Jan2009 and started the new year with a shut-out victory.
The first period saw the action see-saw back and forth. Alex (#1) made several key saves to keep the game even at 0 after the first. With the luxury of two full lines for the first time in a while, Kincardine got stronger as the game went on.
Within the first minute of the second period, Hogan (#11) picked up the puck and in a solo effort beat the Ripley defense at their blue line. He was forced to take a back-hand shot which bounced off the Ripley goalie, off the post and into the net. Kincardine continued to press, but could not put any more points on the board in the second period.
Early in the third period, Kincardine finally added an insurance marker. Michael's (#6) fore-checking resulted in a Ripley pass being tipped. Jordan (#12) held the Ripley blue line and intercepted the puck. He then maneuvered into the centre of the ice and fired a shot at net. The Rocket (#2) had maintained good position in front of the Ripley net and tipped the puck by the Ripley goalie for Kincardine's final goal. The score ended 2-0 for Kincardine with another well deserved shut-out for Alex (#1).
