Kincardine Atom LL2 played host to Lucknow on 17Jan2009. Three weeks previous, Lucknow had beat Kincardine 11-3 in Lucknow.
Kincardine worked hard in this game to improve on that result. The play went back and forth early in the first period, with Kincardine working hard on their defensive positioning to keep Lucknow in check. Kincardine's forwards, Michael (#6), the Rocket (#2), Ryan (#16) and Mackenzie (#30) did an excellent job of covering the Lucknow points in Kincardine's end and chipping the puck out when it made its way up the boards. At the end of the first period, the score was 2-0 for Lucknow.
In the second, Kincardine pressed Lucknow on a few occasions and didn't allow Lucknow to score until there was 3 minutes remaining in the period. Kincardine's defense got caught flat at the back with no back checking forward coming to help out, resulting in a Lucknow breakaway goal. Kincardine responded with two breakaways of their own in the next 2 minutes: first Hogan (#11) hit the goal post with 2 minutes to go in the second and then Virat (#4) just missed on the glove side low with 1 minute to go. Kincardine then had another let down and allowed Lucknow to score with 9 seconds remaining in the period. The score going into the third was 4-0 for Lucknow.
Kincardine maintained their excellent defensive play in the third period, limiting Lucknow to an early goal. Strong play by the defence of Chris (#15), Brendan (#10) and Alex (#8) in front of the Kincardine net thwarted many Lucknow chances. When Lucknow got through the defence, Alex (#1) was there to make the big stop. The final score in the game was Lucknow 5, Kincardine 0.
