First Playoff Game Ends in O/T
Kincardine LL2 travelled to Ripley on 01Mar2009 to play their first game of the playoffs after more than a 2 week layoff.

The rust on LL2 skates was evident, as Ripley hemmed Kincardine in their end early, scoring in the first minute of the game on a Kincardine turnover at their blueline.  Kincardine slowly worked the kinks out and started to get some offensive opportunities late in the first period when Ripley took a high sticking penalty.  Kincardine was not able to score, but the momentum had started to shift.  The first period ended, 1-0 for Ripley.

In the second period, the chances kept coming for Kincardine.  Chris (#15) carried the puck end to end and rang the puck off the goal post.  Later, Kincardine had Ripley penned in their end, cycling the puck in the corner.  Alex (#7) kept the puck in at the blueline, dumping it into the corner.  Mackenzie (#30) passed it out to Hogan (#11) in the high slot.  Hogan made no mistake, firing the puck into the top stick side corner to tie the game.  Ripley didn't fold.  One minute later, Ripley ended up in Kincardine's end blooped the puck up high.  It bounced off the top of Alex's (#7) head and bounced by Alex (#1) in net to make the score 2-1 for Ripley after 2 periods.

Kincardine continued to press early in the third period when Ripley took another penalty.  Chris (#15) weaved his way down the ice from his own end and found himself on another breakaway.  This time he just missed on the stick side low.  Brendan (#10) broke up a Ripley break out in the neutral zone while Ripley was changing.  The puck went to the Rocket (#2) who passed it over to Chris (#15) in the middle.  Chris carried it over Ripley's blue line and then went hard to the net, tucking it in low on the stick side to even the score at 2.  Kincardine continued to press in Ripley's end.  Ryan (#16) did some good digging in the corners to force Ripley turnovers.  Virat (#4) had a few shots from in tight that went wide.  Mackenzie (#30) just missed as she went to the net strong for a rebound.  In the last minute, Hogan (#11) won a faceoff and passed over to Virat (#4) in the slot for the one timer that was just turned away by the Ripley goalie.  At the end of regulation time, the game was tied 2-2.

In the 10 minute sudden death overtime, Kincardine pressed early for the victory.  Chris (#15) again rushed the puck down the ice, this time dishing off to Virat (#4) whose shot rattled around between the Ripley goalies legs but stayed out.  Halfway through the overtime, Kincardine's defence got caught with a Ripley player behind them.  Ripley fired a puck out of a scrum along the boards at centre ice, resulting in a break for that player.  Her shot found its way through the five hole for Ripley's first victory of the season, 3-2 in overtime over Kincardine LL2.  Well played Ripley.
