Peewee Boys Win South Huron Tournament
The Kincardine Legion Peewee boys travelled to Huron Park for the Bill Batten Tournament on Friday night to face Dresden for their first game.

Kincardine were the first to populate the scoreboard early in the first period with a goal by Jordan Bell with a pass from Ethan “Skinny” Skinner.  The rest of the period remained scoreless by both teams.

The Legion boys were on fire in the second period, scoring 3 goals.  Jason Dales scored an unassisted goal, Riley Cook assisted by Keegan McLelland and McLelland assisted by Sam Wilson.  The third period proved to be a real battle between the 2 teams with no one able to sneak one past either goaltender, leading Kincardine to their first win of the tournament with a score of 4 to 0, and advancing them to the A pool.

The Kincardine boys would have to wait until early on Sunday morning to face their next opponent Dorchester.  The boys must have ate their Wheaties that morning because they played strong hockey walking away with a 6 – 0 victory.  Jordan Bell opened up the scoring in the first period followed by Garrett McFadden with a pass from Bell.  Scoring in the second was Skinny, Cook and Bell.  Kincardine was held to just 1 goal in the third by Payton Dunlop.  With this win, Kincardine moved on to the Championship final against Mt. Bridges.

The final game proved to be Kincardine’s toughest challenge of the tournament.  Kincardine was the first on the scoreboard with a goal in the first period by Bell from Cook.  Mt. Bridges must have taken offence to this goal, retaliating 12 seconds later to tie it up.  Kincardine was able to score one more with a goal by Shane Vollmer from Bell to end the period with a 2 – 1 lead.

Bell was able to add to Kincardine’s lead midway through the second with a pass fromVollmer.  Mt. Bridges cut the lead to 3 - 2 by the end of the second period.  Early in the third, Dunlop bulged the twines with a pass from Dales, giving them some much appreciated breathing room with a 2 goal lead.  Mt. Bridges was able to add to their score midway in the third with another goal.  This team would just not give up.  Bell was able to put the final nails in the coffin with 2 more goals, assists going to Vollmer and Brett Carter with a final score of 6 to 3.

Kincardine was able to walk away from the tournament with a record of 3 and 0, with 16 goals for, 3 against, and a shut-out each for the 2 goalies, Seamus Small and Kevin Chau, along with the title, “Bill Batten Tournament A Champions”.
