Ready to Play!

After two exhibition game victories, the Bantam Girls “Rep” team is well prepared to start the regular season.  The girls faced  Saugeen Shores on October 3,  winning 4-0.   The Bantams’ second exhibition game, October 19 in Mount Forest, was an evenly matched contest with the Kincardine girls working hard to attain the 4-3 win over an aggressive opponent.

Kincardine was first on the scoreboard with Hayley Stewart taking the puck from our end all the way to bury it.  Jordan Murchie got the assist.   Mount Forest soon evened the score, but Kincardine was able to pull ahead in the second period when Erica Gade picked up defenceman Dayle Smith’s clearing pass to score.  Mount Forest countered with a goal of their own to tie it up again.  In the last few minutes of the second period, Kincardine was rewarded for their determination with 2 quick goals.  Gade scored again with help from Morgan Padfield and Kristen Derksen, and Stewart beat the Mt. Forest goalie on a pass from Madison McFadden to end the period with a 2 goal lead.

The third period saw end to end action with Mt. Forest scoring once to narrow the gap.  Dependable goaltending by Kincardine’s Kortney Watson, and steady defence by partners Emily Elphick and Kristy Parsons, Danie Watterworth and Dayle Smith, helped to maintain Kincardine’s single goal lead.  Mt. Forest pulled their goalie, but even an extra attacker could not penetrate the Kincardine defence.  The final score was 4-3 for Kincardine.  The girls are ready to meet this team again on Sunday October 26 for their first official league game.
