Still Undefeated!

The Kincardine  Bantam Girls played four games in the past week and remain undefeated.  Sunday night's win, a 2-1 victory over Markdale saw goals scored by Kristy Parsons and Kristen Derksen, with assists going to Hayley Stewart and Emily Elphick.

The week’s action began on Sunday October 26 with the girls beating Mount Forest 2-1.  Goal scorers were Jordan Murchie and Hayley Stewart, with assists going to Courtney Surridge, Marcy Wigle and Madison McFadden.

Hayley "Hat Trick" Stewart led the Bantam Rep girls to a 4-2 victory over the Walkerton Capitals October 28.  Stewart opened the scoring in the first period, assisted by Rebecca McLeod. Midway through the second, Morgan Padfield made the score 2-0, picking up Kristy Parsons' clearing pass, banking the puck past Walkerton's defense and retrieving it to beat the goalie.

The third period was action-packed with Stewart scoring her second of the night, assisted by McLeod and Murchie.  Walkerton increased the pressure and was finally able to beat goalie Kortney Watson on a power play.  Keeping their momentum going, Walkerton scored again to narrow Kincardine's lead to one.   In the last 90 seconds of the game, Kincardine was short-handed but got the insurance goal when Parsons passed the puck to Padfield who fed it to Stewart.  Stewart backhanded it to the top corner to complete her hat trick and give Kincardine the 4-2 win.

Traveling to Saugeen Shores on November 1st for the third game of the week, Kincardine enjoyed a 3-0 victory.  Stewart scored the first two goals, once assisted by Surridge and McLeod and the second unassisted on a breakaway.  The final marker came when Parsons cleared the puck from the Kincardine zone, Surridge fired it towards the opponent’s net and Kristen Derksen tipped it in to score.  Morgan Baker stepped up to play in net for the Bantams and had an awesome game, making at least a dozen key saves in the third period to maintain her shutout.

The fourth and final game of the week saw a weary Kincardine team hosting Markdale on November 2nd.  After a scoreless first period, Markdale was first to light up the scoreboard on a breakaway late in the second.  Kincardine countered when defenseman Parsons’ shot from the blueline squeaked past the goalie.  Stewart earned the assist and the period ended in a 1-1 tie.  The home team got the game winner in the third with Emily Elphick delivering the puck to Derksen who popped it in the net to reach the 2-1 final score.
