Kincardine Hair Connection Atom LL1 Solid Effort vs Normanby
Kincardine Hair Connection Atom LL1 played host to Normanby for their second game on Saturday, 06Mar2010.  The first game of the series was a barn-burner shoot-out, ending 7-9 for Normanby.  Kincardine was looking to score the goals again, but keep the goals out.

Kincardine came out strong getting the puck into Normanby’s end.  Ryan (#16) turned the puck over with a strong forecheck that resulted in a long shot at the net.  Isaiah (#5) had the next opportunity when he almost stripped the puck for a breakaway.  A strong forecheck by Isaiah turned the puck over to Martin (#2) for a good shot from the slot.  Isaac (#9) dug the puck out over the blueline with Matt (#12) following up from his defensive position.  He took the puck into Normanby’s end, letting a shot fly that just went wide of the net.  In the second half of the period, Normanby came on strong and scored two goals, each caused by poor positional play by Kincardine.

Kincardine was short handed to start the second period.  Tyler (#1) made a big save from point blank, with Ariel (#11) clearing the rebound to keep Kincardine in the game.  Brendan (#10) played a two-on-one perfectly, forcing the shot from a bad angle.  Unfortunately, just as the penalty was killed off, Kincardine got caught on a bad change resulting in another Normanby goal.  Kincardine didn’t quit and continued to push for a goal.  Matt (#12) got the puck way up the ice to Payton (#8) for a break down the wing and a good shot at net.  Off a face-off, Michael (#13) got the puck toward the net with Isaiah (#5) pouncing on it for another shot at goal.  Payton (#8) and Michael (#13) combined to forecheck in Normanby’s end, resulting in a turnover and shot at the net.  Payton then got the puck and passed it over to Michael in the slot for a shot with Isaiah (#5) grabbing the rebound and just failing to get it over the sprawled goalie.  Tyler (#1) stopped a breakaway with Cameron (#6) coming back hard to clear the rebound away from a second Normanby forward.

In the third period, Kincardine kept up the hard work.  Martin (#2) chipped a lose puck out over the blueline, then chased it down and carried it into Normanby’s end.  Payton (#8) got hold of the puck inside her end and skated down the wing, out-muscling the defense to cut towards the net, firing the puck just wide.  The period closed out on a Kincardine power-play, but another let-up allowed Normanby to score a final short-handed goal in the last minute.  The final score was 0-4, but Kincardine managed a very solid three periods of hockey.  Three defensive lapses were very costly and Kincardine just couldn’t put the puck in the net on their numerous opportunities.
