Greetings from the Kincardine Bantam Local League Team aka the Kincardine Old Stars. The team has started like a house on fire! With a l-o-n-g bench of 17 skaters and 3 goalies, the "fatigue excuse" won't be tolerated this season!!
Under the guidance of coach Mark Smith and his assistants, Todd Farrell and Tony Swift, trainers John McDonald, Scott Rees and Steve Liddle, the managerial skills of Tania Rees and a crowd of enthusiastic parents and grandparents, the Bantam LL Team has its supports firmly in place.
The three goalies are: Seams Small, Kevin Chau and Brad Liddle. The stalwart defensive crew are: Ryan Swift, Joel Riggin, Sam Netske, Ryan Ball, Scott Smith and Corey Fair. The flying forwards on the team are: Jordan Bell, Brent McDonald, Marcel Fohkens, Jason McDonnell, Austin Rees, Aidan Calcutt, Logan Shewfelt, Geordie Farrell, Brendan McCartney, Jesse Hall and Nikhil Despande.
Because this is the first story of the season and in addition to the introductions there are 3 games on which to report, the use of adjectives and adverbs will be kept to a minimum. In short, we won the first game 7-4 against Listowel with Birthday Boy, Marcel Fohkens, getting a hat trick, Bell putting in 2 and Despande and McCartney notching one a piece. Assists were awarded to: Fohkens (2), McDonnell (2), Calcutt (2), Riggin, Rees, Hall, and Farrell. Small and Chau shared the net. We dominated the game against BCH and won 14-2. The passing was fabulous! Because we were so far ahead at the end of the 2nd period, the coaches mixed up the positions in order to give the opposition a break which was nice to see. Chau and Liddle split the netminding tasks. Scoring for Kincardine were: McDonnell with 4, Rees with 3, Shewfelt with 2, Bell with 2 and Fohkens, Riggin and Calcutt with one a piece. Assists were awarded to: Fohkens (5), McDonnell (2), McDonald (2), Smith, McCartney, Fair, Shewfelt, Swift, Bell and Riggin. We owned the game against Minto with a 7-1 victory. Despite the boys having to sit in the sin bin learning a few lessons the hard way, the Stars came away with a decisive win. The goals were scored by: Fohkens (2), Fair, Shewfelt, Bell, Rees and McDonnell with assists by: Rees (3), Netske (2), Despande (2), Calcutt (2), Bell, McDonnell and Fohkens. Liddle and Small in net for this one. See you at the rink!
