Thede Scores Game Winner
On Saturday the Canadian Tire Atom Reps hosted Mildway for a battle of first place in the WOAA “Blackhawk” division.

Bryce McFadden opened the scoring with an end-to-end rush culminating in a wrist shot to the back of the net. Kara Colhoun and Travis Anderson recently moved to defense and showed off their strong skating by chasing down Mildmay forwards all game. Goaltender Jamie Brock kept Mildmay off the scoreboard until the second period when Mildmay’s Kyle Durrer scored his first of three goals to tie the game at 1 a piece.

Brody Hewitt banged home a McFadden rebound to reclaim the lead for the Kinucks going into the third period. After Mildmay made it 2-2, Ryan Thede scored five hole after getting a pass from linemates Matt Harrison and Jacob Bishop. Kendon Zettle fed a great pass to Jake Colley streaking down the right side. Colley went bar down to make it 4-2 for the Kinucks.

Mildmay wasn’t about to fold, however, and scored two unanswered goals to make the game 4-4. Brock made a great glove save with just minutes left and then with less than a minute left, a tipped shot went of the Kincardine crossbar. Harrison picked up the puck and hit Thede in stride cutting through the middle. Thede dangled by two defensemen and then score the game winner five hole with just six seconds left on the clock. Kincardine won the game 5-4 and retained first place in the Blackhawk division.

On Sunday, Kincardine faced off against Saugeen Shores. The atoms came out flat and gave up an early three nothing lead. McFadden picked up a pass from Colley at centre and scored short-handed finishing with a pin-point shot top corner. Short-handed was theme of this game for Kincardine as they took 7 penalties and Saugeen received none.

Saugeen scored again, this time on Liam McKinnon who had replace Brock. McKinnon played a strong game stopping more than one break away.

The second period ended as Emma Swift scored on a rebound from Colley’s shot. Down 4-2, McFadden scored for the second time this time putting of the inside part of the post and in. With their goalie pulled, the atoms applied a lot of pressure but could score the game-tying goal. Final score Kincardine 3 – Saugeen Shores 4.

AP Carson Stevenson play a strong defensive game in front of his own net and along the boards.
