The Big challenge
On Saturday the 22nd of October the Canadian Tire Kinucks took on the highly touted Mitchell team and the big Pep talk from coach Curtis and Mark got our Players ready. With Everett in net, we started Liam, Ryan, and Zach at forward with Brennan and Carson on defence.

Our first shift was awesome and we took to Mitchell with good passes, a couple of shots on net. We changed on the fly and kept up the heat on them and at the 7:00 minute mark Liam tickled the twine assisted from Ryan and Zach. Mitchell woke up and started to fire the rubber at Everett who turned aside a number of shots. We put on the pressure with Brody, Travis, Griffin, and Kendon firing shots left, right, and center at the Mitchell goal but stonewalled each time. The defence of Carson, Brennan, Mattie and Kaleb were able to keep the puck away from Everett and for good measure fire passes to our streaking forward. Alyssa made a great move and deked out the defender only to be stopped by the goalie. The first period ended with Brody Liam and Travis firing the rubber at the net, end of the first 1-0 for Kincardine. The second period started the same way with lots of pressure and Zach passing to Brody for a 2 on 0 breakaway. Again the goalie came up big and shut the door. We then got a penalty to Brennan and Mitchell peppered Everett with 3 quick shots, but the defence of Mitchell tried to hold the zone and fired the puck off Liam’s shingaurd and off on a breakaway and lit up the scoreboard for a 2-0 lead. Liam was on fire, A shorthanded goal. However something was said by the Mitchell coach, because their kids started to buzz our net. Everett stopped a series of shots, breakaways, and wraparounds. We were getting tired and Mitchell finished the second period with another powerplay but we were up 2-0. We were shorthanded to start the 3rd and Mattie and Kaleb were keeping the players from any good shots and fired it down the ice. However after trying to keep it in the Mitchell end, they found a speedy skater behind the defence and a breakaway from center ice. A high wrister to the top corner and the score was now 2-1. Mitchell was then energized and the play stayed in our end for the next 4 minutes, Everett and our defence came up big to keep it 2-1. Then after chances galore by Mitchell and some good saves Mitchell fired a wrister off Everett’s arm and over the line. 2-2. This woke us up and Kendon started zooming around the ice. He deked out the defence and fired a shot off the post, then Zach tried a wraparound, only to be stopped and final score 2-2. A great start to the game and some fine defencive play, including saves by Everett. Good game.          Written by Jeff Renaud
