8-1 Win for the Kincardine Cougars-December 10th
Saturday December 10, 2011 Novice LL #4 Cougars vs the LL#3  Mighty Green Machine

by Tracy Rintoul

With thoughts of Christmas just 2 weeks away excitement was already brewing as the Kincardine Novice #4 “Cougars” came to the Davidson Center to face off against the #3 “Green Machine” team.

The Cougars put their games faces on and set out to have a fun game and play their hardest against their opponents. The Cougars showed great sportsmanship and skill out on the ice. #9 Carson Fletcher did an excellent job of skating the puck up the ice and looking for an open player to pass to.  #15 Holden Stevenson was like a brick wall on the defense line blocking the puck against the mighty Green Machine.  The Cougars goalie Gordie Reaume had the reflexes of a cat stopping some fast and quick shots.
The Cougars started the second period with excellent stick handling and skating. #8 Cameron Renaud took the puck up the ice with the Green Machine’s fast on his trail. #3 Tannen Stone was doing an exceptional job of positioning himself in front of the net waiting for a pass or rebound. #4 Bennett Ford was showing that practice pays off by passing the puck to his team and #12 Mackenzie Kuntz was another brick wall on defense keeping the puck in play along the blue line.  #9 Carson Fletcher never gave up and did tremendous using the boards to bring the puck down the ice. Great goals scored in the second period by #10 Ben Watson, #5 Cayden Evans and #8 Cameron Renaud. The third period proved to be just as exciting. #14 Taylor Carney played hard on defense digging in the corners and getting the puck away from the Green Machine players.  Cameron Renaud was right there for support and was able to get a piece of the puck and skate it up to the other end of the ice. The Green Machines were relentless at turning the puck around and taking it down the ice to the Cougar’s area but once again #15 Holden Stevenson was there to put a stop to it. #10 Ben Watson did a wonderful job at keeping the puck in the offense side and #5 Cayden Evans showed great skill at using the ice area and finding openings to skate with the puck.  Mackenzie Kuntz proved too that practicing pays off with a brilliant back hand pass clearing the puck away from a Green Machine player.  #8 Cameron Renaud had another great skate up the ice whizzing past the Green team. This time he used superb skill by passing the puck to #3 Tannin Stone who faithfully set himself up for great passes and opportunities in front of the net. Tannin got a piece of the puck just missing the net but leaving the crowd and coaches impressed with his perseverance.  #1 Gordie Reaume held strong in goal letting only 1 puck past him by #3 Carson Boettinger.  The Cougars scored 3 goals in the third period all by Cameron Renaud. The Cougars left the ice feeling happy and anxious for another great match next week. Way to go!!
