Cougars Win Consolation Trophy in the Saugeen Country Championship-Feb. 4, 2012
The Kincardine Cougars Novice House League team traveled to Hanover on Saturday Feb 04 to participate in the Saugeen Country Championship Tournament and brought home the Consolation Championship Cup.

Game one saw Kincardine face off against a team from Mount Forest with a great deal of enthusiasm and effort. Although playing a strong game, the Cougars came out on the losing end, suffering a 4-1 defeat which put them into the consolation side. Although the Cougars had numerous scoring opportunities, Cameron Renaud was the only Cougar to find the twine.   Game two saw the Cougars against the Bruce Peninsula team who played a good game but were done in by the Cougar sharpshooters who scored often to record a 6-1 win. Goals were scored by Caydence Gibson, Carson Fletcher, Cayden Evans and Cameron Renaud with the trick. Line mates Desmond Pitre and Ben Watson came close but were unable to bury the biscuit. Despite numerous chances, Mackenzie Kuntz, taking a turn at forward, was stymied by the Bruce Peninsula goaltender.   The Game 2 win placed the Cougars into the Consolation Championship game against an energetic Hanover squad. The game was played like a true final, a back and forth nail biter with both teams fighting for space on the ice and the opening goal. With six minutes to play in the third period Cameron Renaud was able to bang home his own rebound to put the Cougars up by one. It now came down to the Cougar's goaltender, Gordie Reaume and his defensive stalwarts, Taylor Carney, Holden Stevenson, Mackenzie Kuntz and Tomas Nancekivell to slam the door, preserve the shut-out and bring home the Championship which they were able to accomplish by thwarting all the Hanover advances and maintain the 1-0 final score! Well done Cougars.
