Kincardine Canadian Tire Atom Kinucks have their first win of the year in their regular season game thanks to hard work andteam play. The Atoms defeated the Minto Mad Dogs 5-3 in Tiverton on Saturday.
"The team is starting to show some positive signs that will make us a competitive group in the WOAA and OMHA. I am proud of what the kids have learned and the hard work ethic that will make us a good team throughout the year", Head Coach Jeff Scott Said after the game. "We also have a great staff with Ian Wheeler (Manager), Kelly Helm (Trainer), Warren Beisel (Asst. Coach) and a number of additional Team Staff".
Jordan Beisel opened the scoring with an unassisted goal and Trent Pletch made it 2-0 from Wilson ship and Mitch Pyke. Kincardine increased their lead to 3-0 when Wilson Shipp scored from Darcy Scott. Scott made it 4-0 on an unassisted rush.
Minto would show some signs of life late in the second and scored 2 quick goals in the last 3 minutes to cut the lead in half. The team would battle throughout the third period and Minto would pull their goalie in the last couple of minutes only to have Jordan Beisel score into the empty net. Minto continued to play hard and did score a last minute goal to end the game at 5-3.
Defenseman Kaleb Smith was awarded the teams conveted “Hard Working Helmet” with his great work throughout the game.
The Canadian Tire Kinucks are next on the ice Wednesday night in Goderich in an Exhibition Game vs. the Sailors. Then it is off to Parry Sound as they will participate in the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame Classic tournament over the weekend.
