BUSY WEEK FOR THE CANADIAN TIRE ATOM KINUCKS
On Wednesday evening the team travelled to Harriston to face off against the Minto Mad Dogs. This was the teams first action since getting home from the Bobby Orr Classic tournament in Parry Sound. The score was 1-0 for the Kunicks after the first period. Scoring the loan goal was Nolan MacKinnon set up by Mitch Pyke. The Kinucks would build a three goal lead after the second with goals from MacKinnon and Wilson Shipp. Getting helpers in the second were Mack Beisel, Darcy Scott, and Kevin Coady. The Kinucks would keep the pressure on in the third period and earn two points on the road with a 6-3 victory.
Ryan Wheeler was solid in goal when called upon. Third period scorers were Jordan Beisel, Shipp, and MacKinnon (completing the hat trick). Assists went to Shipp and MacKinnon. Ryan Wheeler was rewarded with the "hardest worker" helmet following the contest.
The weekend would start off with a trip to Shallow Lake to take on the Lakers, on Saturday at noon. Kincardine would strike early on a goal from Shipp (who seems to have a hot hand right now infront of the offensive net). The squad would go up 2-0 in the second period on another goal from #4 (Shipp), assists went to Jordan Beisel, and Mack Beisel. The Kinucks would take a two goal lead entering the third. Shallow Lake would keep applying the pressure and eventually beat Trent Courtney early in the final frame. At the midway point of the third the Lakers would even the score making for a very entertaining finish. The teams would exchange scoring opportunities and at the final buzzer the Kinucks would gain a much deserved point on the road. Nolan MacKinnon had a very good game and was given the "hardest worker" helmet at the conclusion of the match.
On Sunday afternoon the Kinucks would host TCDMHA Rebels (Township of Chatsworth and District Minor Hockey Association). This was a very fast paced game and after the first the score was tied 1-1. Shipp struck again on a nice feed from Jordan Beisel in the neutral zone. The Rebels would be up a goal entering the final frame. The Kinucks never gave up and played strong defensively in the third period knowing they would get an opportunity to tie the game if they kept working hard. Sure enough MacKinnon scored a beauty going off the crossbar and down to even the score. Assists went to Ethan Petrie and Darcy Scott. The teams would go back and forth exchanging chances in the final minutes, however both goalies would prove to be unbeatable. The final score was a 2-2 tie. This was a very entertaining game to watch. Ethan Petrie was the "hardest worker" of the Sunday afternoon game.
The coaching staff was very pleased to see the boys earn 4 out of a possible 6 points over the course of the week. Congratulations to all!
The team will host Saugeen Shores Storm this Thursday at the Davidson Center at 6:30pm.
