The Kincardine Canadian Tire Atom Kinucks played their first
game of the 2012 Regional Silverstick in Wingham on Sunday against the Goderich
Sailors. The first period saw both teams with chances but no goals.
This trend continued into the second period with close checking until Goderich’s
Ethan Barnes opened the scoring at 6:15. The score remained 1-0 until Kaleb
Smith scored the equalizer, his first of the year, only two minutes into the
third period.
The third period was a nail biter and with only 1:46 left on the clock Jordan “JB” Beisel scored the go ahead goal for the Kinucks with the assist going to Nolan MacKinnon. However, the Sailors wouldn’t concede the game and immediately battled back. The Goderich teams hard work was rewarded only forty seconds later when the Kinucks were unable to clear their zone and a screen shot from the boards found the back of the net. The Kinucks Silverstick opener would end a 2-2 draw and Jordan Beisel would earn player of the game. Head Coach Jeff Scott stated “We did a lot of things right today and are off to a good start in the tournament”.
This past Thursday, the CT Kinucks dominated the same Sailors team 6-1 in an exhibition game at the Davidson Centre. Scoring the goals for the Kinucks were Jordan Beisel and Wilson Shipp with 2 each, Nolan MacKinnon and MacKenzie Beisel with singles. Assists on the goals went to Jordan Beisel with 3, Darcy Scott with 2, Kevin Coady, and Ethan Petrie. A strong game was played by all with honourable mentions to Cale Gibson, Mitch Pyke and Robert MacGregor.
The Canadian Tire Atom Kinucks play their second game of the Wingham Regional Silverstick on Thursday, December 6 versus the Mount Forest Rams. Game time is 6:15pm at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex in Wingham.
