Montgomery Ford Midget girls were able to play a game finally with all the past bad weather road closures and with the re arrangement of school exams made things tricky to arrange. Last Sunday Feb 2nd the girls met for a match with Upper Maitland in the D/C to play them in a make up game from league play. The team started out with a good lead going into the 3 rd period 4-2 lead, but it seemed the layoff and lack of hockey played from cancellations left our team with no stamina in the 3rd and with one of our defenseman Jenna Gade had to leave the game with a concussion , the Upper Maitland team brought a heavy 3rd period , which we ended losing the game 5-4 .
Then on Tuesday night the Ford girls went to Lucknow to play the Sailorettes in a regular season game hoping the weather would stay good. Well the team was a little more on their game, having a good period 1st & 2nd, with a 3-0 lead going into the 3rd and after the flood, the Ford girls were also starting the 3rd with a 1:30 left on a power play, after the play started and getting the puck in their end zone for a 2nd face off, we gave up a break away to Lucknow and the forced a penalty shot trying to stop the breakaway with throwing a stick a the puck, Lucknow was now awarded a penalty shot, however our goal keeper ( Howald ) was able to stone the shooter and keep them scoreless for a few more minutes and then we gave up a goal for 3-1 with 10 minutes left to go, Lucknow adds fuel to the fire and scores a bullet shot from the point to make it 3-2 with 3 minutes to go, the Ford girls were able to defend the win for 3-2 victory for the 3 point win. This month was the start of a very busy month for out team , fitting in the Silver stick tournament this weekend and on Febuary 22nd weekend down to Brantford for the Walter Gretzkey Hockey tournament . The team also has 3 league games left and 8 provinical playoff games to complete by Mar 1st, the current team stats are 12-13-3 for the season , hoping to bring these stats up more . The girls are doing the best we can, as the most of the team have part time jobs, have school work to keep up with and in the 2nd week of Febuary Eden McFarlane and Tara Wood are leaving us to go to Europe to student exchanges . We will have to pull together even more with 1 less Def and 1 less Forward . Keep up the good work ladies J
