PEEWEES WIN "B" CHAMPIONSHIP IN LUCKNOW
"B" champs of the Lucknow Regional Legion Tournament
The Peewees started the tournament on Thursday night in Lucknow as they took on Blyth-Brussels. Blyth-Brussels would open the scoring midway through the first period, which would be the eventual game winning goal. The Kinucks had some good opportunities however could not find the back of the net on this night. Blyth-Brussels would add an insurance marker in the third and win the game 2-0.
The loss on Thursday evening would put the Kinucks on the "B" side of the tournament. Game two would be Saturday morning against a very tough Mitchell Meteors squad. Captain Colhoun would open the scoring in the first on a goal mouth scramble, after a great point shot from Kaleb "BLINKY" Smith. The other assist was awarded to Mack "HAIR" Beisel. Jordan Beisel (JB) would put this one on ice with under a minute to go sending one into the empty net, the loan assist went to Colhoun. Hayden Richardson made some great saves in the third when the score was 1-0, he would go on to earn a much deserved shutout! Kinucks win 2-0 and would move on to face BCH at 1pm in the semi finals.
In the semi final game the score was tied 1-1 after the first. Colhoun struck again in the first unassisted. Colhoun would put the Legion peewees ahead in the second from JB. The Kinucks would score another 3 goals in the second to take a commanding lead. Scorers were Mack Beisel, Colhoun and Nolan "SMILES" MacKinnon. Assists went to Colhoun and Smith. The hot hands of Colhoun continued to fire strikes in the third with his fourth goal of the contest from JB and Ethan "CRAZY LEGS" Petrie. Smitty would round out the scoring from JB. Kinucks are headed to the "B" finals with a 7-2 victory!
The finals would be played against highway 21 rivals from Goderich, the Sailors. the Kinucks would be up 2-1 after one period on goals from (yep you guessed it) Mr. Colhoun, and Cale "FORGETFUL" Gibson. Setting up the goals were Petrie and Zach "BOMBER" Wall who made a great pass on the Gibson goal. The second period would see strong skating defencemen Kaleb Smith make a sensational rush and fire a laser to the top corner. Hayden "QUICK LEGS" Richardson would get the assist. Mack Beisel would give the Kinucks a three goal cushion heading into the final period, the assists went to JB and Colhoun. JB would seal the victory in the third from Colhoun and Mitch "STYLES" Pyke. Kinucks are "B" champions with a 5-2 win!
Congratulations to the Legion squad as three wins in one day is a huge accomplishment. Your "B" champions are forwards Liam Colhoun, Jordan Beisel, Mack Beisel, Nolan MacKinnon, Kevin Coady and Cale Gibson. The defence unit which was solid the whole tournament are Zach Wall, Mitch Pyke, Ethan Petrie, and Kaleb Smith. The goaltending tandem of Hayden Richardson and Trent Courtney only gave up 6 goals against in the four games played. Well done boys!
