Midget Rep, 2014-2015 (Kincardine Minor Hockey Association)

The Kincardine Miller Insurance Midgets came within one minute fourteen seconds of a place in the OMHA final during their game five match-up with the Parry Sound Shamrocks on Sunday March 8th. Not only that, Parry Sound stole the tie and advanced to the final with a heartbreaking winning goal 39 seconds from the end of overtime.

Well, it's all tied up at one apiece after the opening two back-to back games in Parry Sound on the weekend. Both games were exciting hard-fought match ups. Finding their best form in the third period, the Kinucks roared back from a 2-0 deficit in game 1 on Saturday, Feb 28th to take the tie 3-2. On Sunday, Mar 1st, Parry Sound edged the second game 2-1 despite a late onslaught from the Kinucks.  

Following their WOAA title win, the Miller Insurance sponsored Midget Rep Kinucks swept the Elmvale Coyotes in the OMHA quarter-finals to move on to the semi-finals to play either Parry Sound or Ennismore. Opening up at home in game 1, the Kinucks got off to a great start in the first period taking a 2-0 lead on goals by Tyson Rutledge and a rocket from the point by Sheldon McBride. Elmvale fought back in the second but goaltender Dalton Regier stood strong and a short-handed backhander by returning captain Shane Vollmer enabled the Kinucks to see the game out comfortably in the third. ...

In a barnstormer of a game at the Davidson Centre on 18 Feb, the team came from 4-1 behind at the start of the third period to beat the Elmvale Coyotes 5-4, sweeping the OMHA quarter final series in three games. They now move on to play either Parry Sound or Ennismore in the semi-finals. Jointly with the Atom Reps who also won to move on, over $2000 was raised from the gate and 50/50 tickets at both games for the Koberinski family who lost their home in a house fire on Saturday, 14 Feb. Full series report to follow.

On the night of February 14th, Art and Marj Koberinski escaped with their lives and the clothes on their backs when their home on Highway 9, Kincardine, burned to the ground. This was 2 days before Marj's 80th birthday. Tomorrow night, February 18th, the Kincardine Minor Hockey Association will be raising funds to support this local family.
