Post Christmas Action!!!
by Maria Riggin
With the turkey dinner behind them, the Presto Crest Peewee AE Team took the ice at the beautiful arena in Goderich on December 27th.

Taking a nice pass from defense partner Clint Parker, Marshall Smith opened up the scoring from the blue line.  Three minutes later, the Sailors scored the equalizer but the determined PC boys went ahead when Logan Shewfelt popped one in, ably assisted by Aidan Calcutt.  The second period saw the Sailors again equalize the score only to ratchet up Presto Crest’s resolve to win.  Sam Culmer, taking a pass from Evan Brown smacked one into the Sailor’s lair, followed by a beauty goal from Brent McDonald who was set up by Scott McFarlan.  That line scored less than a minute later when Calcutt passed to Brent McDonald who fed the puck to McFarlan who bulged the twine.  Culmer and Shewfelt scored again in the third period making the final score, 7-2 for the Presto Crest team.  Kudos to the ever nimble goalie, Brad Liddle, for his awesome play between the pipes!
January 4th saw the PC boys travel to the Plex in Port Elgin to take on their nemesis, The Storm.  Austin Rees, assisted by Shewfelt opened up the scoring midway through the first period after a relentless attack around the Storm’s net.  The Storm answered the call and went one better to close out the first period.  Kincardine came on strong in the second period.  After a relentless attack on the Storm, McFarlan scored on a set up from Joel Riggin and Shewfelt.  With a Kincardine player in the sinbin, the Storm again went ahead.  Rees picked up the puck along the boards ands sent it to Kaleb Brough who shot it in from the point again equalizing the score.  The PC boys  became frustrated about a number of things best not reported during the third period and the Storm scored 4 unanswered goals making the final score 7-3.  Despite the final score, it must be stated that Liddle was terrific in net but the team just couldn’t clear the puck making the attack on Liddle relentless.  Kudos to the coaching staff for keeping the team calm and to the parents for cheering good effort!
