Kincardine Hair Connection Atom LL1 Travel to Mildmay

Kincardine Hair Connection Atom LL1 travelled to Mildmay on Monday, 21Dec2009.   A sign of how this game was to unfold started off on the first shift of the game, when a Mildmay forward broke across Kincardine’s blueline and let a wrist shot fly that ended up in the top corner of the net with only 24 seconds gone in the game.

When Kincardine attacked the puck, play was fairly even.  Whenever Kincardine stood around watching the play, Mildmay took full advantage and got great scoring chances, frequently converting those chances into goals.

In the first period, Cameron (#6) playing defense, made a nice pass up the middle, just missing springing Darian (#3).  Brendan (#10) blocked a shot and then Cameron (#6) knocked it out of the air behind the net out of harms way with his glove.  Ariel (#30) stood tall in the net, taking a shot off the mask and keeping it out.  Payton (#8), Darian (#3) and Colton (#14) put some pressure on in the offensive end.  Late in the period, with Kincardine down 0-3, Colton (#14) took the puck down the wing, after picking up a clearance by Brendan (#10), and passed it into the slot where Payton (#8) put it home.  However, 6 seconds later, Mildmay scored another goal to end the first period up 1-4.

In the second period, Payton (#8) made a great effort to get the puck out of Kincardine’s end to Colton (#14) for a shot at net.  Darian (#3) picked up the rebound, couldn’t shoot, so circled the net and hit the goalie with a hard shot.  Isaac (#9) battled along the boards to get the puck and then made a nice pass to Ryan (#16) who got the puck down the ice.  Ariel (#30) continued to make nice saves making 2 stops back to back at the side of the net.  Martin (#2) skated back hard after the puck went by him to take the puck away at centre ice.  Isaac (#9) came off the bench and curled at the offensive blueline, staying on side, and picked up a pass from Michael (#13) for a breakaway, just shooting wide.  Despite some good play, Mildmay scored another 4 goals to go up 1-8.

In the third period, Kincardine kept up a good effort.  Matt (#12) took the puck from deep in his end and made a good rush into Mildmay’s end.  Ariel (#30) dove on the puck with two attackers in front of her, cutting off a scoring chance.  She then made several more stops in a row.  Darian (#3) was all over the puck in the offensive end, beating 2 defenders, but was stopped by a diving goalie.  Then Darian tried a wrap-around and was stopped again by a quick moving goalie.  Later, Darian carried the puck across centre ice and got a shot at net, followed up on the rebound and couldn’t get it over the goalie.  Mildmay scored another 5 goals in the period, including one with only 13 seconds left in the game.  Seven Mildmay goals were scored by one player alone and another three by a second player.  Kincardine showed lots of character in this game, never giving up despite the score.
