Kincardine Canadian Tire Atom Girls Rep Team Opener
The Kincardine Canadian Tire Atom girls took to the ice on Saturday for their home opener against Walkerton.
The regular netminder Marcelle Platt was out of the country tending to family matters but they were fortunate enough to bring in Rose Pande on a two way contract. The first period saw fast end to end action and chances from both teams only to be knotted at zero by the end of the frame. Early in the second period Chloe Page picked the puck up in her own end and was able to chip it up to Claire Hunsberger who took it up the ice and went in alone on the goalie to notch the first goal of the game. Hunsburger would score one more unassisted before the end of the period to make it 2 - 0 Kincardine. Early in the third Aysha Machan scored assisted by Georgia Tanner. Things remained at 3 - 0 for a while thanks to Rose Pande who kept her team in. Then with three minutes to go Hunsburger scored another unassisted to make the hat trick. The girls weren't finished yet, the very next shift Aysha Machan picked the puck up in her own end and showed a lot of patience controlling the puck and then finding Georgia Tanner breaking up the middle of the ice who skated hard with a lot of determination fighting off an opposing player and not losing posession until she got close enough to put it past the Walkerton tender making the score 5 - 0. A strong offensive effort was put forward by Jessie Anderson, Kennedy Farrell, Reilly Colhoun, Paige McLelland and Brooklyn MacArthur. Helping to preserve the shutout were defence Emma Dixon, Joanne Page, Mackenzie Kuntz and Heidi Allen.
