Green Machine Remain Undefeated Submitted by Mike Hackett

The Novice House League Green Machine took to the ice twice this past week, collecting three of four points with a tie and a win to remain undefeated on the year.

Thursday evening, The Green Machine and their rivals in blue left nothing on the table in an absolute shoot-out at the Tiverton Arena, in a game that saw twenty-two goals scored in total.  A game that at times resembled a tennis match – the teams went back and forth peppering both goalies with shots and exchanging goals until the blue squad would take a two-goal lead mid-way through the second period.  Each time the Green Machine came within one, the boys (and girls) in blue would respond to restore the two goal lead.  A frantic late third period storm by the Machine saw them score two goals in the last two minutes to secure an eleven-eleven tie.  A fitting end to a hard-fought game by both teams.   Goal scorers for the Green Machine were Chase Anderson with four goals and an assist, Aidan Renaud with three goals and both Lucas Watson and Mitchell Hackett chipped in a pair each.  Special mention goes to a brave Danika Legge, who despite the barrage of shots, stood tall in the Green Machine net.

Saturday at the Davidson Centre was a different story.  The Green Machine, with a slighty shortened bench (no pun intended) faced off against the Black squad in a much better defensively played game.  Powered by goals from Aidan Renaud (3) and singles from Chase Anderson and Mitchell Hackett, the swarming defense held the Black Squad to just two goals and skated away with a 5-2 victory.   Jack Anderson returned to the net, and put in a stellar performance, aided by the solid play by his defensemen in front of him.  The Green Machine is really coming together as a team, with crisp passing and everyone contributing at both ends of the ice.   Team Green’s next game action will not be until the 2nd of November, when they’ll face the Red Team, who will be eager to avenge a 3-1 loss to the Green Machine in the season opener. See you at the rink!
