2 Game week, Walkerton & Saugeen Shores games
The Montgomery Ford Midget girls still giving the best when it is time to step on the ice, as these 16 girls show up to each game and play with HEART, this past week, the girls traveled to Walkerton Thursday night for a league game vs Walkerton "B" team, the girls played their best and kept the 1st period scoreless as the game was back and forth. Into the 2nd period came some oportunity and with a shot from the point by Alice Thorpe created a rebound for Hailey Woods to tip in the 1st goal. The 3rd period seem to fall apart as the Captin Megan Stewart-Kemp fell and slid into the boards injuring her knee and taking her out of the game,

then less than 2 minutes later Kelsey Padfield tripped skating towards the net with the puck and hit the boards at full speed, giving her a concussion. While the team kept battling , Maddison Mcbride and Alice Thorpe again on the point, created another rebound for Georgia Fields to score a 2nd goal. With 5 minutes to go, Alice Thorpe left the game with a pulled groin muscle, really shortening the bench, the Ford girls had to finish the game with 2 players in the penatly box as Walkerton pulled their goalie, with a 6 on 3 last 2 minutes which seem to take forever to count down, the girls and goalie Tomaini held the shut out and a win for 2-0 over the Hawks !

The next game vs Saugeen Shores on Sunday night at the D/C with a shorter bench, related to girls injured from the Walkerton game and part time jobs , down 4 players, we brought up Morgan Robertson to help from the H/L Battler team to play defence for us. Well the game's 1st period went along pretty well gaining a 2 goal lead and keeping up the passing which is really starting to develop nicely. The 2nd period went also as well, yet the girls played agressively and this started creating more penalties against us, without the intent to injure, yet this does happen as is the game of hockey. Trying to still keep sportsmanship in hand ,  scoring a 3rd goal on a powerplay that did develop for us giving the Kinucks a 3-0 lead into the 3rd period. As we discussed keeping the 3rd period penalty free, well sometimes things don't go as planned and after a few more minutes the period heated up more and more penalties were issued and it seemed that Saugeen kept sustaining injury from our play and this was not the intent although Saugeen coaching staff and fans did not see it that way. With 17 seconds left on the clock and a 5-1 score for the Kinucks, we were issued a major penalty for cross checking and their entire team skated off the ice and refused to finish the game, the ref's ordered Saugeen  to come back to finish, they still refused to finish the game, this now will be reported to the WOAA & OWHA who will now have to review these actions and deal with this forfeit accordingly. The game seemed to be one that the girls played aggressively, NOT viciously , there were a couple of times when  penalties were deserved , a couple of times they were given because of players going down, no matter what anyone thinks, the coaching staff of Kincardine do enforce sportsmanlike play, yet they also expect the players to play hard and to do their best, and to be able to take a push or shove without worry! We certainly do not want players to be harmed and try to teach them to protect themselves as it is a game called Hockey ! Unfortunately this was how this game unfolded and we now see Saugeen players sending twitters out this past evening that we are not a sportsmanlike team , this is totally untrue ! Scoring in this game tonight was Jorie Elliott -1 , Lauren Jolley -1 , Ashely McConnell -1 , Rainor Kuz -2 ............. The team's next game is Saturday Dec 13th up to Markdale to play the shooting stars "B" team.
