The 23rd Annual Kincardine Regional Silver Stick tournament will be drawing to a close on Wednesday, but not before some exciting hockey action taking place at the Davidson Centre where the finals for all divisions are held.
The action starts at 9am where Seaforth will meet Norwich in the Novice C final. Both teams dominated their pools during round-robin play, winning their first three games in a convincing fashion. Norwich then continued their strong play in the semi-finals where they beat Flesherton 4-1. Seaforth had a tougher task taking on Durham, but managed to squeak by with a 3-2 win.
At 10:30 am, the finals for the Novice B division will see South Huron take on Goderich. Both these teams competed in the same group during round-robin play, where the Sabres swept the division while winning each game by at least 3 goals. The Sailors got into the semi-finals via the scoring percentage tie-breaker, narrowly edging out Kincardine. Both semi-final games were very close, with Goderich edging out Wallaceburg 3-2 and South Huron beating Ayr by the same score.
Seaforth places their second team into the PeeWee C finals at 12:00 noon where they will take on Bruce Peninsula, who also shared the same group in round robin play. Seaforth had gone 2-0-1 in the round robin while Bruce Peninsula owned a 2-1-0 record; their only loss coming at the hands of Seaforth. Both teams won their semi-final match-ups by a score of 4-1, where Bruce Peninsula topped Shelburne and Seaforth came out on top against Wingham.
The PeeWee B final at 1:30 pm could be one of the most exciting of the day, where Kincardine will meet Tavistock for the second time in the tournament. The two teams shared the same group in the round robin, tying each other and winning both their other games by large margins. Tavistock was able to take first place in their group by having a very large margin of victory in their final game. In the semi's, Tavistock doubled up on Listowel 4-2 while Kincardine narrowly defeated Ayr 5-4.
At 3:00 pm the Bantam C final will once again feature two undefeated teams: Mildmay and Langton. Mildmay managed an impressive +21 goal differential in their group, but only edged out Plattsville in their semi-final 4-3. Langton had some closer games in their group and another in the semi-final, emerging victorious over TCDMHA 3-2.
The last final of the day takes place at 4:30 pm and once again features two teams from the same group, who had tied when they met during the round robin. Ayr had won the division by the slightest of margins using the scoring percentage tie-breaker over Tavistock. In the semi-finals, Tavistock shut-out the host Kincardine team 1-0, after the Kinucks had swept their group. Ayr also had a tough one-goal game in their semi-final, beating South Huron 3-2.
