Canadian Tire Atoms put out by Mitchell
Written by Tracy Primeau

The first playoff game was a nail biter with Mitchell coming out ahead 2-1.  Our one and only goal was scored by Ethan Long with assists by Danny Skinner and Ben Netzke.  It was scored in the third period as were all the goals.  The game winner was scored on the power play in the third and even though Coach Burrows pulled the goalie Ethan Primeau, the team was unable to get it back.

Game two was in Mitchell the following Saturday night and it was not a best effort on the team’s part unfortunately ended up with Mitchell ahead 7-3.  The boys started off strong in the first with a goal by Skinner assisted by Craig Luinstra and Brett Colhoun.  The end of the first had the teams tied at 1-1.  It all fell apart in the second period though where although Long got a goal assisted by Brett Burrows, Mitchell got five.  Burrows and Long put another one in during the third but it definitely wasn’t enough.

Game three was back in Mitchell again with Jakob Dunlop playing forward and getting the first goal followed by Owen Fohkens getting one in from behind the net putting Kincardine up 2-0 at the end of the first.  Unfortunately Mitchell was able to catch up by the end of the game and even with a 10 minute overtime ended up leaving with a tie game 2-2.

Game four had to be won in order to stay in the playoffs and Burrows had one in 24 seconds into the game putting Kincardine up 1-0.  Mitchell caught up and passed us in the second 2-1 but Burrows assisted by Rhys Vollmer tied it 2-2.  Unforunately Mitchell was able to get one by Ethan Primeau in net in the third period winning the game 3-2.

Good effort boys, good goaltending and defense in the last couple of games and lots of shots on goal by the three forward lines!
