On Sunday January 2nd, Kincardine Novice LL#1 and LL#2 began the New Year with fireworks of energy after being off over the Christmas Holidays.
With Nathan Williams minding the twine for Team #2 and Rose Pande for Team #1, both goalies had just completed a goalie school session before returning to the ice to stand tall for their teams.
Team #2’s Cale Gibson was rested and ready to melt the ice scoring the first goal of the game from a rebound off teammate Joanne Page giving them a 1-0 lead in the first. Team #1’s Owen Thorn wasn’t letting that bother him and with his mind on the twine, stick on the ice and some fancy deaks, Thorn dominated the second period with 2 unassisted goals to take his team into a 2-1 lead. Great defensive playing for Team #1 was demonstrated from Jared Petrie, Kevin Coady, Dakota Condie, John Graham and Kayne and Lauren Lee.
With incentive from Thorn, the “Chicks with Sticks”, Heidi Allen, Brooklyn MacArthur and Kennedy Farrell, decided to use some “Girl Power” to seal the win in the third, with Farrell and MacArthur maneuvering the puck to Allen who one-timed it into the mesh giving Team #1 a 3-1 victory to start 2011!
