HOME HARDWARE NOVICE TEAM WINS REGIONAL SILVER STICK
HOME HARDWARE NOVICE TEAM WINS REGIONAL SILVER STICK

It has been a very busy week for the Home Hardware novice team, as they won the Regional Silver Stick ("B" Division) tournament hosted by Kincardine.  The team is now making arrangements to head to the International Silver Stick tournament in Michigan January 20th - 22nd.

The Regional tournament started on Tuesday, December 27th, and the Kinucks played the Listowel Cyclones in the afternoon.  Looking to get off to a good start in the tournament the Kinucks were able to win all three periods, beating the Cyclones 6-1.  Goals were scored by, Jordan Beisel (2), Jordan Moulton (2), and Wilson Shipp (2).  Setting up the goals earning assists were, Darcy Scott (2), Nolan MacKinnon, Heidi Allen, Beisel, Moulton, and Shipp.

Game two for the Kinucks was the following afternoon versus the Blenheim BRUINS!  It was very difficult for one of the Kinucks coaches to coach against the BLACK & GOLD.  However the players were focused and came away with another victory, beating the Bruins 5-1.  Moulton led the way with a hat trick (3), and singles went to Beisel and MacKinnon.  Assists were credited to Noah Swann, MacKinnon, Moulton, and Shipp.

Day three of the tournament was an early start time for the Kinucks as they were against the Goderich Sailors.  Once again the Kinucks came out strong and controlled the play for the majority of this contest.  The final score was 7-1.  Once again the hot hand scorer Moulton led the way with a five goal game!  Other scorers were MacKinnon, and Shipp.  MacKinnon had two assists, and Beisel had one.

The Kinucks were now at the top of there group with a 3-0 record, meaning they would play in one of the semi-final games later that day.  As the day went on Kincardine learned they would play a very strong West Lincoln team who had played very well against the Kinucks in the Minto tournament.

This game was very close with end to end action.  The Kinucks were ahead 4-2 after two periods and were very familiar with how West Lincoln could push the play in the third period as they had come from two goals down late in the game at the Minto tournament.  However the Kinucks were very determined and knew if they won they would have the opportunity to play in the CHAMPIONSHIP game!  The squad held off the attack and won the game 5-2.  Goal scorers were Moulton (2), Shipp (2), and MacKinnon.  Setting up the goals were Cody McLelland (2), Beisel, Moulton, and Shipp.

The Kinucks would now face BCH in the Championship game on Friday morning.  With a very good crowd at the Davidson Centre the Kinucks were prepared to put there best effort forward.  The Kinucks would lead 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Beisel, setting up the tally was Moulton.  The home team (Kinucks) would take a 2-0 lead heading into the final frame.  Moulton provided the goal in the second, assisted by Swann.  BCH scored early in the third to make it 2-1, but Moulton answered 7 seconds later to regain a 2 goal lead (unassisted).  Goaltender Ryan Wheeler had made two huge saves both on breakaways to keep the score the same.  Beisel closed out the scoring adding two more goals, to give him the hat trick, at the midway point of the third period.  The Kinucks were up 5-1 and looked poised to win the Silver Stick tournament, which they held on to do so!

The team finished with a 5-0 record and outscored there opponents 28-6.  The goaltending tandum of Jared Petrie and Ryan Wheeler was outstanding the whole week long.  The defence (Darcy Scott, Jessica Anderson, Mitch Pyke, and Noah Swann) took care of business and cleared pucks from the danger areas, and obviously the offence was in fine shape!  Congrats to all players and look forward to more success in Michigan!
