MITCHELL ELIMINATES KINUCKS IN TWOLAN CUP FINALS

The Twolan Cup championship series resumed last week after the March break.  Mitchell had the lead 1-0 in the series and were the hosts for game two in Mitchell on Tuesday night, where they were looking to go up a pair of games in the best of five series.  The Kinucks were looking to even up the series with a short line up due to illness, but didn't have a very favourable first period and found themselves trailing 2-0 after the first.  The team responded well in the second and cut the lead in half, trailing 2-1 after two periods.  The goal was scored by Jordan Moulton and set up by Jordan Beisel.  In the third frame the Kinucks would be put down two men due to some questionable calls, with under four minutes remaining.  Mitchell would take full advantage and score on the powerplay to go up 3-1.  This would be the final score and Mitchell now had a commanding lead in the series.

On Thursday evening the Kinucks would play at home with hopes of a return date to Mitchell for a game four.  This game was very exciting with both squads skating hard.  The goaltenders at both ends would keep it 0-0 after the second period, setting up a very exciting third.  The Kinucks would turn the puck over in the neutral zone early in the third period, and Logan Harmer of the Mitchell Meteors would make the Kinucks pay scoring on a breakaway.  (Harmer scored 4 goals and added 2 assists in the series which saw Mitchell score six goals total.) The Kinucks would apply pressure throughout the remainder of the third, but were unable to crack the strong defensive play and goaltending of the Meteors.  The final score would be 1-0, and allow Mitchell to take the series.  Congratulations to the Meteors and there staff on winning the Twolan cup.

Also a special congratulations to the Kincardine Home Hardware Novice Kinucks for playing a tremendous series.  All three games of the series were very close and our Kinucks never gave up, well done boys and girls!

The team will now prepare for its year end wrap up tournament in Aylmer at the end of the month.  Please visit Kincardine Minor Hockey website for scheduling details.
