Atom Rep, 2014-2015 (Kincardine Minor Hockey Association)

For the Canadian Tire sponsored Kincardine Atom Kinucks, the challengers on the road to the 'All Ontario' Final have come and gone. They weathered the Storm of Saugeen Shores and sailed by the Listowell Cyclones. The Coyotes of Elmvale were soon tamed, leaving the Parry Sound Shamrocks as the only team between the Kinucks and a Provincial Final. For these Atoms from Kincardine, making the Provincial finals would end a 22 year hiaitus, at this age group. 

The Canadian Tire sponsored Kincardine Atom Kinucks continued their exceptional season when they swept the Elmvale Coyotes 3-0, in the 'All Ontario' series, advancing to the last four in the Province, where they'll face the Parry Sound Shamrocks.  Bolstered by the return of D-man Nate Arnold from injury, the Kinucks got off to a good start in the Elmvale series when two early goals from Alex Colley-Aquino put them on the road to success. Further goals from Carson 'Teddy' Fletcher and Noah Swann (2) would see the Kinucks run out 5-2 victors. 

On the night of February 14th, Art and Marj Koberinski escaped with their lives and the clothes on their backs when their home on Highway 9, Kincardine, burned to the ground. This was 2 days before Marj's 80th birthday. Tomorrow night, February 18th, the Kincardine Minor Hockey Association will be raising funds to support this local family. Both the Atom and the Midget Rep teams are one win away from reaching the 'All Ontario' semi-finals. Please spread the word. Attend the game and buy a 50-50 ticket. The Canadian Tire sponsored Kincardine Atom Kinucks racked up another title as they claimed the WOAA play off championship, sending them toward the 'All Ontario' quarter finals. The season is already culminating to be something that these kids might never repeat for the remainder of their playing careers. As the Regional Silverstick Champions, the Regular Season Group 1 winners and WOAA Play off Champions, their record to-date is fairly reasonable!

As the current Regional Silverstick Champions, the Canadian Tire sponsored Kincardine Atom Kinucks had the honour of playing in the International finals, this past weekend. These kids got to witness the opening ceremonies and the singing of the national anthems before competing against the best teams around. Can these kids compete with the best? You bet they can! All that said, as I watched developments unfold, it made me think about hockey and what the whole experience meant for these kids.
