Kincardine Canadian Tire Atoms start Silver Stick with a win

The Canadian Tire Atom Kinucks start the 2008 silver stick with a convincing 5-1 win over the Ayr Flames.

The game started out with some hard fought center ice battles for the puck with occasional forays into each team's end. Some early shots by Long were stopped by the Ayr goalie. A hooking penalty on Burrows at the end of the first came to no avail as the first period ended scoreless.

In the second Kincardine started to press harder with good opportunites to Long on a jam in, and a hard shot by Burrows. Also some excellent work by the defence including Netzke to keep the puck in Ayr end. with 3:58 left in the second, Fohkens scored on a rebound assisted by Long and Primeau. A great save by Primeau wth 2:06 kept Kincardine in front. with 34 sec left in the period, Burrows scored on a great shot to the blocker side, with assists from Fohkens and Luinstra. The second period ended 2-0 for Kincardine.

 

Ayr scored at the beginning of the third period on a 2-1 with Skinner doing his best to hold off Ayr. Ayr came on with some new life. However with 5:49 remaining, Kincardine was on the powerplay. After a draw in the Ayr end, Long scored on a backhand to the glove side, assisted by Sharp and Vollmer. With 1:40 remaining, Burrows got the puck after some good forechecking, and scored on a breakaway unassisted. Finally with less than a minute remaining, Long scored on an excellent solo effort unassisted. The game ended in a convincing 5-1 victory for Kincardine. Next opponent is Twin Centers.
