The Kincardine Komets Show Heart
The Scotia Bank Kincardine Komets played a great game of hockey against LL3 on Saturday, November 20.

There was not much action in the first period but both teams displayed lots of great skating and puck handling. Within minutes there was a shot on net but goalie, Nathan Williams, blocked it. In a nail-biting moment, the puck sat there just in front of the blue line. Fortunately, it was picked up by Joanne Page and passed to Noah Page who skated it safely away. Cale Gibson showed excellent defence, there were terrific shots by Mitch Pyke, Caydence Gibson demonstrated fast power skating and Gordie Reaume displayed great puck handling. The end of period one saw a score of 0-0.

There was more action in period two. Within a couple minutes of play, the puck was knocked in, bringing the score to 1-0 for LL3. Not even a minute after that, Robert McGregor of LL3 took the puck and hit the twine. The score was now 2-0 for LL3. Jacob Sylvester had a break away but it was knocked out by the opposing goalie. The Kincardine Komets could not be held back, though. Reaume was in position in front of the net and hit the rebound in. McGregor earned himself some time in the penalty box for tripping Joanne Page. Jacob Sylvester and Gordie Reaume were working well together. When Sylvester had control of the puck, he passed it to Reaume in front of the net but the Komets just couldn’t get it past the goalie. Great try. Cale Gibson also had a break away, in which the fans were sitting of the edge of their seats but the Komets were denied again. Just before the buzzer sounded to signal the end of the second period, the Komets were scored on again, bringing the score up to 3-1 for LL3.

In the third period, the Komets continued to skate well and play as a team. Williams stopped more would-be goals. At one point, there was an audible gasp as a shot on Williams caught the pipes and was redirected. The Komets never gave up, though. Reaume found himself in a pack of players all fighting for the puck when he grabbed it and broke free, sending the puck home and bringing the score up to 3-2. The Komets pulled the goalie in the last minute of the game and despite their hard work and perseverance, the game ended with a score of 3-2 for LL3. The Komets showed heart out there and we’re proud.
