1st Playoff Game for Komets (by Deborah Killin)
What an exciting game on March 24th when Kincardine Novice LL Team # 2 ( the Komets ) and Team # 1 met up. One of the best played games of the season so far for the Komets which unfortunately and not without a hard fought battle from all team players ended in a 2 – 0 defeat.
With a near miss from Mitch Pyke in the 1st 30 seconds the Komets were looking good. Reilly Colhoun and Caydence Gibson worked well as a duo. Colhoun made a breakaway in the 6th minute but was denied a goal by Goalie Rose Pande.
Komets goalie Nathan Williams hadn’t had to work too hard in the 1st period but his skills were tested 2 minutes before the 1st period buzzer when he made a fantastic save. 2nd period started with Pyke nearly taking the Komets into the lead followed closely by Emily Killin nearly scoring on the rebound but it wasn’t to be. Constant shots on goal by Cale Gibson, Pyke, Joanne Page and Gordy Reaume failed to see the puck being sunk in the net.
The Komets were determined to keep up the pressure in the 3rd period, defenders Noah Page and Noah McArthur worked hard at protecting the net but couldn’t stop Kevin Coady of team 1 scoring the 1st goal of the match. Jacob Sylvester and Anika Luinstra played some good moves with quick responses from Sylvester. Goalie Williams was in top form but still Kennedy Farrell managed to sneak 1 past him.
With 90 seconds to go the Komets decided to play with an empty net in a last bid attempt at a comeback, but despite a breakaway from Colhoun the final score remained at 2-0 for team 1.
